My Cup Of Tea

Vika Mitrichenka arrived in The Netherlands from Minsk, alone, on a tourist visa. Her choice of Amsterdam was no accident. She became fascinated by Holland's Golden Age while still at school, particularly by the realistic paintings of artists such as Johannes Vermeer and Pieter Hoogh. Having exhibited her work at Amsterdam's Rietveld Academie, she was promptly accepted onto a course. After the Rietveld, she approached the prestigious Rijksacademie (only 1 in a 100 hundred are admitted) – and was accepted immediately.

The Frozen Fountain granted her an artistic assignment, and asked her to create a tea service – which was then immediately purchased by the Stedelijk Museum. For € 3650 this numbered edition tea service can be yours too.

Suddenly my mug of stale tea looks horribly ordinary.

Tough Doilies

Almost every day I walk past a store called {far 4} and their windows always catch my eye. The latest thing on display to make me chuckle are these tough doilies by Ladies & Gentlemen. Maybe it's time for me to pick up the crochet needle!

DIY - Rolling Crate Coffee Table

Sue from 129 Twig & Vine created a fun little DIY on her blog recently transforming an old milk crate into a unique coffee table.  It's perfect for storing magazines and other things you don't want in plain sight but are not yet ready to part with.
I happen to have 'borrowed' two very similar crates from my in-laws garage so all I would need is some cool industrial looking caster wheels. Now if only I could channel my DIY inspiration into action I would maybe get some of these cool ideas I've been posting here actually done.

Bike Shelf

How awesome is this? I would love to have this in our hallway so that I never have to mop up dirty bicycle track marks all the way through the house anymore! And you know you don't want to give up a chunck of your living room to store your bike either. This design solves it all in a rather elegant way, by raising your bike off the floor and providing a handy shelf for your keys, wallet, gloves, or whatnot. The slot in the walnut shelf is designed to handle most standard sized frames. So clever, I love it!

This bike shelf is designed by Chris Brigham of Knife & Saw, and it's been chosen as a finalist in the Dwell Modern World Awards. Go vote if you agree this hits all levels of awesomeness.

Apartment Inspiration

Having moved quite recently, I am still very excited about adding just the right touches to our apartment to make it our own. I am a big believer in the whole 'less is more' theory, but there is still some wiggle room for us to bring in a few more pieces to make our house a home. In my search for ideas I came across these pretty pictures of other people's amazing homes. They inspired me, so I wanted to share them with you.
